ABSTRACT

Complex coronary heart disease (CHD) has become a hot spot in medicine due to its complex coronary anatomy, variable clinical factors, difficult hemodynamic reconstruction, and limited effect of conservative drug treatment. Identifying complex CHD and selecting optimal treatment methods have become more scientific as revascularization technology has improved, and coronary risk stratification scores have been introduced. SYNTAX and its derivative scores are decision-making tools that quantitatively describe the characteristics of coronary lesions in patients based on their complexity and severity. The SYNTAX and its derivative scores could assist clinicians in rationalizing the selection of hemodynamic reconstruction treatment strategies, and have demon-strated outstanding value in evaluating the prognosis of patients with complex CHD undergoing revascularization treatment. The authors in this article summary the practical application of SYNTAX and its derivative scores in complex CHD in order to deepen the understanding of the relationship between the choice of different revascularization strategies and SYNTAX and its derived scores in complex CHD and provide a further reference for clinical treatment of complex CHD.

ABSTRACT

The present study aimed to examine the value of ultrasonic soft markers in prenatal screening by analyzing the clinical outcome of fetuses with ultrasonic soft markers during the second trimester of pregnancy.A retrospective analysis was performed to evaluate the outcome of 591 fetuses with ultrasonic soft markers from January 2015 to August 2016 in Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University,China. It was found that 591 fetuses showed ultrasonic soft markers in 4927 cases with the occurrence rate being 12.0%.Among them,564 fetuses (95.4%) were delivered and the remaining 27 cases (4.6%) were aborted.Five hundred and sixty-seven cases had single ultrasonic soft marker, including echogenic intracardiac focus (n=343),mild renal pelvis dilatation (n=116),short long bones (n=72),single umbilical artery (n=31),mild lateral ventriculomegaly (n=21),choroid plexus cysts (n=19),and echogenic bowel (n=13),with the disappearing rates in pregnancy being 97.1% (333/343),77.6% (90/116),0% (0/72),0% (0/31),57.1% (12/21),89.5% (17/19) and 61.5% (8/13) respectively. The rate of pregnancy termination due to single ultrasonic soft marker was 3.4% (19/567),and that was 33.3% (8/24) due to two ultrasonic soft markers with the difference being statistically significant (P<0.05).The reasons of pregnancy termination included malformations (polycystic kidney, cleft lip and palate, congenital heart diseases, pcromphalus, hypospadias, hydrocephalus),chromosome abnormality, and stillbirth. It was concluded that single ultrasonic soft marker is usually transient manifestation in pregnancy.Without the other structural defects, single ultrasonic soft marker usually disappears spontaneously with favorable prognosis in a low-risk population. It is suggested that ultrasonic soft markers should be appropriately interpreted to avoid unnecessary invasive examination.

ABSTRACT

·Familial exudative vitreoretinopathy ( FEVR ) is a hereditary disease associated with abnormal angiogenesis in the pediatric period. The most prominent finding of the disease is avascularity in the peripheral retina. Whereas, the phenotypic features are variable. In some minor cases, missed diagnosis would happened due to asymptom, while, in severe FEVR, neovascularization, retinal exudation, retinal folds, macular heterotopy and retinal detachment may occur and give rise to extremely poor vision or even blindness. Mutations in the FZD4, LRP5, NDP, TSPAN12, ZNF408, and KIF11 genes have been reported to contribute to FEVR with X - linked recessive, autosomal dominant, and autosomal recessive inheritance manners. We have summarized aspects of pathogenesis, clinical features and classification, mutations genes as well as diagnosis and treatment of FEVR in this review.

ABSTRACT

The changes in the tau protein phosphorylation and expression of bcl-2,and bax in rat parietal cortex neurons after focal cerebral ischemia-reperfusion(I/R)were explored, and the relationship between the tau protein phosphorylation and the expression of bax or apoptosis was clarified in order to elucidate the relationship between cerebral infarction and Alzheimer's disease. The rat focal cerebral I/R model was induced by occlusion of the right middle cerebral artery using the intraluminal suture method. The level of tau protein phosphorylation at Ser396,Ser404,Tyr231,Ser199/202 sites and the expression of bcl-2,bax and total tau 5 in rat parietal cortex during focal cerebral ischemia/reperfusion were detected by Western blot. The relationship between the tau protein phosphorylation and the expression of bax,or apoptosis was examined by TUNEL method and double-labeling immunofluorenscence method. The results showed that the level of tau hyperphosphorylation at Ser199/202,Ser396,Ser404,Tyr231 sites and the expression levels of bcl-2,and bax were significantly higher in I/R group than in the sham group, bat the ratio of bcl-2/bax was decreased.Neuronal apoptosis, bax expression and the tau protein hyperphosphorylation were co-localized.It is suggested that Alzheimer's disease-like pathological changes occur after cerebral I/R.The highly abnormal phosphorylation of tau protein plays a key role in cerebral I/R-induced apoptosis. The cerebral infarction may contribute to Alzheimer's disease occurrence and development.

ABSTRACT

Objective To study the influence and dose effect of ultrasound on the contraction of uterine smooth muscle in rats. Methods Estradiol benzoate was injected into rats three days before conducting an in-vitro experiment.Their uteri were resected and irradiated with ultrasound(0.8 MHz,3 W/cm~2,0-40 rain). The contrac- tion frequency and amplitude were recorded using an MS-302 biological experiment system. Results It could be seen that the contraction frequency and amplitude, and general contractile activity were significantly increased during ultrasonic irradiation(P<0.01).The increased contraction frequency and amplitude lasted for ten minutes, and then the normal contraction pattern resumed. The contraction frequency as well as the percentage change in eontraction fre- quency were highest during the first 15 minutes of ultrasonic irradiation;the contraction amplitude as well as the per- centage change in amplitude were highest during 40 minutes of ultrasonic irradiation.Contraction activity was at its highest for 30 minutes, but the percentage change in activity was highest for 20 minutes. Conclusions Ultrasound can induce uterine smooth muscle contraction in rats. This biological effect is related to the irradiation time.
